soboho Vintage Sizing and Condition

How we size our vintage clothing

Current day sizing of clothing is very different from vintage clothing sizing and thus more often than not the size label on a vintage item will not correspond to todays measurements for that size.

For this reason we recommend that you pay attention to the measurements given. We will measure the garment and then where possible give it a  size more appropriate to current clothing sizing.

What measurements we use

Skirts : the waist measurement is taken from measuring the waistband of the skirt when laid flat and doubling it. We may also give a hip measurement where it is slim fitting or high waisted.

Skirt length is measured from top of the waistband to the hem.

Tops, jackets and coats: the bust/chest measurement is taken armpit to armpit when laid flat and doubled so if a blouse measures 17" it will be a 34" and therefore a current size 8 for example.

Sleeve length will be measured from shoulder to cuff

Dresses: the length measurement will be from shoulder to hem, bust and waist as above and hips from the fullest part

Trousers/ Jeans: These will be measured by waistband as above so if it measures 14" laid flat when doubled it would give a 28" waist.  Trouser length is given by inside leg measurement.

MINT ~ Looks brand new, hardly any signs of wear. This often applies to Deadstock or Virgin vintage, ie unworn garments but also pieces which have been minimally worn or used.

EXCELLENT ~ Normal signs of wear expected for age but nothing easily visible.

GREAT ~ Normal signs of wear expected for age but with some minor visible imperfection which would not detract from wearing it

GOOD ~ May have more obvious signs of wear , structurally intact but imperfection could be fixed to improve condition
